Thank you America!

Obama wins.  The best thing that has happened in my lifetime and I am 32.  This is a message to us all.

Thank you USA!!!!!!!!

Go Obama!

Has Ozzy had it?

Will the Sunday papers help force the shadow chancellor out???

Is Gideon getting what he deserves?

Today’s news is dominated by allegations that Gideon Osborne, Shadow Chancellor, sought to gain a donation from Russia’s richest man.  There were 2 good pieces, from Robert Peston and Nick Robinson today on the subject.

Nick raises some interesting questions in his article.  Such as did Osborne think that his rich chums would keep their mouths shut even while he was spilling the so-called beans on Mandelson?  Either that, or he is either not very bright or has poor judgement and is possibly arrogant.  Now, i do not think for one second that he is not a very intelligent chap.  That makes it worse for me.

Although Cameron may have wobbled a little during the new Brown bounce, it is Osborne who has seemed to me to be out of his depth.  Could the Tories throw the next election away?  Is it 1992 all over again?

What do you think?

Scientists isolate the “pro-life” gene

Campaigners have reacted with fury to the news that scientists have discovered the “pro-life” gene. Marjorie Phelps of campaign group, Save our Souls, said that this was “a further example of the moral degradation of our society under New Labour” and she called on the “right-thinking majority” to take direct action against the scientists involved.

Ms Phelps went on to point out that there has been a massive increase in abortions since Labour came to power in 1997. “Under the craven leadership of Satan’s children, Blair and Brown, we have seen over 10 million innocents slaughtered by New Labour. This government has killed more children than the Khmer Rouge. At least Pol Pot fought against these murders, unlike these cretins. I am calling on all of us who care for our future to join me in marching on the university to express our anger with this assault on traditional values.”

Leading morality campaigner, Wilfred Hellfire backed the calls from Save our Souls. “We need to get back to traditional values, with a normal married couple, man and woman and turn our backs on political correctness,” added the unmarried 48 year old. He went on to say, “I used to be able to watch some good family viewing, but now I am bombarded with hardcore pornography from noon till night. Even the news isn’t safe. New Labour has made Britain the laughing stock of the civilised world”

The decline of morals

The decline of morals

A government spokesman refused to comment on the news, however in private ministers are concerned with the impact of these findings. One unnamed former transport secretary said, “this is really the thin end of the wedge.” A prominent Conservative pro-life MP said she believed that this was government funded and personally overseen by Harriet Harman. Noone from Ms Harman’s office was available for comment.

Professor Bob Binns of Coatbridge University was himself surprised by his findings. “This is the last thing I expected to happen,” he said.

Professor Binns explains, “I was carrying out further work into my theories of cyclic-depsipeptide antibiotics and how these can create higher bactericidal activity against MRSA. Then, it literally hit me. I realised right away the significance of my findings and how these lessons can be carried forward into discovering further genetic mutations. My next step is to find the “pet snake” gene because I just don’t get that one myself.”

Asked to comment on the issue, one fictional Labour MP said, “I haven’t heard of this and it sounds like some kind of joke so I am not too concerned.”

Boyd v Burley – round 3

Okay, I fully understand why Kris Boyd was angry on Saturday night.  He is the best goalscorer Scotland have had since McCoist and yet cannot get a game for club and country.  He should have been brought on in the 2nd half on Saturday at the very least BUT Kris should have kept his cool.  He could easily have spoken out in the media without allowing himself to be painted as the bad guy.  He could have made a strong emotional and patriotic case to play based upon his impressive scoring ratio.  Burley’s impassioned rhetoric on Monday was certainly persuasive to those of us who could only dream of playing for Scotland at Hampden.

I am sure Kris knows deep down that he over-reacted.  I would have played Boyd and McFadden in a 4-4-2 and i would not have asked our best dribbler, Faddy to play with his back to goal.  I mean, have you seen how wee McFadden actually is?  Who was Burley kidding?  He is not Dalglish and doesn’t claim to be.

I want Burley to succeed but i fear that the rootlessness which characterised Vogts’ reign as manager has crept back into our game.  And if he fails, who is next?  Maybe old smiler, Jim Jefferies should get a shout.

Anyway, we are still 2nd in our group so we have lots to play for, even if we can expect little change out of the Netherlands games.  Fingers crossed.

A bigger question i wish to ask is; does anyone else feel like cringing when they hear flower of Scotland nowadays?  It just seems rather juvenile and pathetic when we are singing about what happened nearly a millenium ago.  And can we move off blaming the English for everything in the process?

Apart from their sports commentators, who are fair game as far as i am concerned.

Is it just me, or does Panorama seem to be a Tonight with Trevor McDonald outtakes show?

Here we are

This is my first attempt at blogging properly.  Or blooging, which is what i wrote before checking my spelling.  Start as you mean to go on, as they say.  Blooging sounds like it could be an illegal and perhaps even dangerous practice.  Maybe best not to dwell on that.

I suppose i should make a comment about the US presidential race.  I have read the various blogs and media sites and there seems to be a disconnect between what some of the media is reporting and both what i, and those surveyed by CNN and Fox, saw.

I thought Obama came across as calm, reassuring and presidential.  McCain, however seemed erratic and angry.  He again came across as arrogant and condescending.  Which is a big disappointment for me.  I used to like McCain, when he was a maverick.  Like the fictional Arnie Vinnick, he seems to have sold his soul.

Obama seems to me to be the most impressive politician of his generation, much as Clinton and Reagan were.  I realised that the old McCain was dead when he selected Palin.  I find it insulting to the USA that she was held up as a “role model” by McCain last night.  Americans deserve better, and McCain should have selected someone of competence, whether they were conservative or moderate.  She may be conservative, but she is unfit for the office of the vice presidency.  In my humble opinion, I grant you.

But, what do i know?  I am not American, I do not live there and I have no vote.  I can only call it as I see it however.

So Murray is through

Excellent to see Andy through.  Now for Monfils (Myfriends?  Isn’t that McCain’s catchphrase?
